ICSI ? is the method in which oocytes are fertilized by direct injection of a single spermatozoon in the oocyte cytoplasm. It is realized by using an extremely precise and performable equipment and requires a special personnel training. This procedure is entirely realized under microscopic observation and implies cellular manipulation using two thin, only a few microns, capillaries.

The insertion of a single spermatozoon in the oocyte cytoplasm is done as quickly as possible, after a previous immobilization of the spermatozoon using the injection pipette.

ICSI method is generally recommended in cases in which the male partner has severe sperm deviations. . In the Fertility Center, all the couples benefit by the ICSI technique, including those who have a satisfactory sperm quality for conventional in vitro fertilization..

For the latter, the number of fertilized oocytes using the ICSI technique is establish by the embryologist relative to each particular case and represents a safety measure for eventual pathologies which cause the spermatozoon incapacity to penetrate the oocyte membrane (fertilization failure).

For ICSI procedure,  oocytes preparation is different from the one necessary for the conventional in vitro fertilization, while sperm is prepared using the same techniques. All the stages that follow the oocytes preparation and their injection are similar to those of the conventional in vitro fertilization.

According to the data from the specialized literature there are no records of differences in the development and the frequency of genetic aberations of the children born from natural conception, IVF or ICSI.
